Charles Grassley Asks Ministries To Turn Over Financial Records Within One Month

CBS News has learned Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct.

Letters were sent Monday to the ministries demanding that financial statements and records be turned over to the committee by December 6th.

According to Grassley's office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles.

The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six - Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar - also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University.

A spokesperson for Joyce Meyer Ministries provided CBS News with an IRS letter to the ministry dated October 10, 2007, that stated: "We determined that you continue to qualify as an organization exempt from Federal income tax." The letter could not be independently verified in time for this story. The ministry also pointed to audited financial statements for the last three years that are posted on the organization's Web site.

In a statement, Benny Hinn's spokesperson, Ronn Torossian, said the ministry was in the process of determining the best course of action in response to the Senate investigation. "World Healing Center Church complies with the laws that govern church and non-profit organizations and will continue to do so," Torossian wrote.

In a statement to CBS News, Creflo Dollar called his ministry an "open book" and said he would comply with any "valid request" from Grassley. But he noted that the inquiry raised questions that could "affect the privacy of every community church in America."

The other three ministries did not respond to requests for comment from CBS News on Monday.

Because they have tax status as churches, the ministries do not have to file IRS 990 forms like other non-profit organizations - leaving much financial information largely behind closed doors.

The letters sent Monday were the culmination of a long investigation fueled in part by complaints from Ole Anthony, a crusader against religious fraud who operates the Dallas-based Trinity Foundation, which describes itself as a watchdog monitoring religious media, fraud and abuse. "We've been working with them for two years," Anthony told CBS News. "We have furnished them with enough information to fill a small Volkswagen."

Anthony said after twenty years of working with media organizations to expose televangelists, he saw little reform. He says that's why he turned to another tactic, going straight to Grassley. He is confident that Grassley's inquiry will be different, "What we hope is that this will lead to reform in religious nonprofits."

The structure of many televangelist organizations - in which the leadership is often concentrated in one person or one family - has itself been the target of criticism. "Churches like these are ruled as a dictatorship," says Rod Pitzer, who directs research at Ministry Watch in North Carolina, which provides advice for donors to Christian organizations.

Pitzer welcomes the Senate committee investigation. Ministries lacking accountability, he says, "give a black eye to churches and Christians who are trying to do things in the right manner."

By Laura Strickler © MMVII, CBS Interactive Inc. What about Tithing? What is Tithing?
These are a few questions that we will look at and see what the bible has to say about the subjects.

The word tithe means tenth or 10 percent of anything. It is used in the bible many times predominantly in the Old Testament, and mentioned a few times in the new testament also. Many Christians practice tithing as a form of giving to the local church. I believe that tithing is not applicable to today’s Christians.

Let’s look at the origination of the tithe. The first time we see the tithe used is by Abraham to Melcheziedeck. In Genesis 14:18 after Abraham had gone to war, on his return after having a victory he had taken the spoils of the war. Notice Mechezieck blesses Abraham before; Abraham gives him a tenth of the spoils. This is the first time we see the tithe and the only time we see the tithe before the law of Moses was established. Now the laws of Moses included tithing as apart of the law. The people where compelled to tithe according to the law. However, Abraham is seen tithing to Melcheziedeck before the law was introduced. Many people used this example to affirm that tithing was used before the law, during the law and therefore must continue after the law. This mind of think is wrong. There are many things practiced before the law, for example, burnt offerings, and animal sacrifices. These were practiced before the law, during the law, however, we do not continue to practice it after the law.

Melchezedeck was a form of Christ and it is very unique that Abraham gave a tithe to him, not fully understanding who Melchiezeck was. We will pick up Melchezedeck and Abraham a little later on …

Lets look at the tithe in the law of Moses. There are many references to the practice of the tithe and also many different tithes. In Lev 27:30-33 …
If we look in the Old Testament law we will see that the tithe was always used as something grown from the ground or animal. Some people believe that in our day and age we can substitute this as money. Let us look at why this is incorrect. In Deut 14:22 …
This is a tithe that God is telling the people to EAT! Eat my tithe? This is unheard of today. Today we would call this eating our seed. God tells the people to exchange there tithe into money, if the distance is far (this is to prevent the produce from spoiling, since they could be travelling for days sometimes) and them repurchase produce when they reach the destination which God has sent them to.

Then in Vs 28 we see another tithe, the third year tithe … here we see God sing the tithe to take care of the needy. Levites (who had no inheritance, and to be provided for by the people), Orphans, widows, strangers. Simply put those who cannot help themselves. In … vs … the bible says “religion …. Blameless….orphans…

Deut 26:12 … third year tithe.

The tithe had a purpose, and was a means of providing for those who could not provide for themselves.

Now one of the most common scriptures concerning the tithe in the old testament is in Malachi 3:10 …

This is where we see God now rebuking people for failing to bring in the tithe as he had established in his law. He accuses them of robbing him.

God says “so there may be FOOD in my house” (Nehemiah 10:38). This is literal food.

Now what I want to point out to you is the phrase “windows of heaven”. The phrase “windows of heaven” is found in the bible fives times. The first time we see this is in Gen 7, when God destroys the earth by a flood. In verse 11 it says, ….
This is used as a terminology for rain. Some translations say “floodgates” this gives the emphasis of “much rain”.

We also see it in 2 Kings 7 (Elijah has the windows of heaven closed)

The last time we see this term used is then in Malachi 3:10. Now if we bear in mind that the tithe was used as crops, we will understand that there must have been a drought. God was not saying, “if you tithe I will prevent these things form happening”, the things he mentions in Malachi where already happened. There windows of heaven where closed, they crops where being devoured by pests (possible locust) there vines where casting there fruit before their time. This was desolate times, because they had stopped tithing as the law had commanded them to. Now God is saying return to me and I will return to you. If the children of Israel would return to obeying Gods laws, then he would return to them and rebuke the devourers of there crops, prevent there vines from casting there fruit prematurely and bring an abundance of rain on there crops for a great harvest that there will not be room enough to receive there harvests of crops.

God also says that nations will call them blessed for they will be a delightful land. This would be based on the produce of there land at the time.

If we try to put the tithe in monetary terms, how can we have no room to receive money? In this day and age there is no such thing as not having room enough to receive money. Im sure that every tither will tell you they have plenty room left.

The tithe was never meant to be money, buy food. This is very clear when scripture references are used correctly. If the tithe was ment to be money, then why would god tell them to sell there produce (if the distance to travel was to far) for money, but when they reach there destination to repurchase food with money and eat.
1 Tim 1:5-7 …
The tithe is a teaching of the law and many are confidently affirming it. God does not need money get his gospel out, he need people with mouths. Jesus himself had no place to lay his head, he told his disciples to take nothing with them when they entered a town, but to trust God to provide. Many have been deceived that God needs millions to get the gospel out to this world.

In the old testament the people where governed by written laws and commands. Love is what motivates us in the new testament and we practice grace giving. Grace giving is motivated by love, while law giving is motivated by leagalism and fear. The bible says “perfect love cast out fear”. We give to help those in need.

Now you may still say “I believe in the tithe”. If you still do, then I challenge you in this.

Practice the tithe as it is in the bible.

Use it for what it was used in the old testament. Are you using your tithe to support Levite priests? Orphans? Widows? Strangers?

If you are going to tithe, then you must practice what the bible says is a tithe. However, if you practice any part of the law you are guilt of breaking it if you do not practice the entire law.

TITHING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

What does the New Testament say about tithing? We see the tithe mentioned very few times in the New Testament, mainly by Jesus. However, he used the example of the tithe while rebuking Pharisees. In Matt 23:23 … Tithe mint, dill, cumin…
We see the tithe here as herbs. Not as money. Jesus is rebuking them for focusing on the smallest part of the law (straining a knat) yet they swallow a camel. Is this not the same thing happening today? Some churches will go as far as excluding members of there congregation from activities or refusing to help them when in need because there records shows an inconsistency of tithing or they have no record at all. At worst, some leaders will through congregation members out of the church for not tithing or for sharing with others the truth on the subject.

Luke 11:42 … pharasiee in temple… im not like this sinner…

The most important scripture referring to the tithe in the new testament in Hebrew 7. Here we pick up again on Araham and Melcheziedeck. Hebrews 7:1 … the law required the levitical priests (desendents of levi). Emphasis is firstly on “the law”. Secondly the tithe was to be paid to the levite priests, and could not be received by anyone. This is the only way that the tithe was seen as valid. Therefore, today we cannot tithe to a pastor.

(explain rest of scripture here)

Acts 4:32 this should be the mindset of the New Testament church. Helping with our brothers and sisters and those in need. Those who where rich help those who where poor and the people where equal. The Apostles received money from the rich and gave it back to those who lacked. They never held it for themselves.

Today Pastors own multimillion properties, while some members of there congregations have no where to live.

Now this scripture is scary. Gal 3:10 … (those who do parts of the law are cursed) Therefore, when we partake in some parts of the laws of Moses yet do not do the entire law are put ourselves under unnecessary curses as the scripture says. Also the bible says in Gal 5:4 … (fallen away from grace) we remove ourselves from the grace that Christ made available to us by trying to receive Gods blessing by works of the law and to obtain favour of God. If God desires to bless us he will, and it is simply that HIS WILL. This is how Jesus taught us to pray. God is more interested in you helping those in need then you sending 10% of your income to a church. God desires cheerful givers not legalism. Let God begin to use you as a blessing to those around you.

Paula White's desperate moment!! (audio link below)

Written by Paul Edwards (http://www.godandculture.wordpress.com/)

Televangelist Paula White was a recent guest on my radio program in Detroit. She and her husband of 18 years, Randy White, announced in August that they would be divorcing and yet continuing their respective ministries: Randy as Senior Pastor of Church Without Walls in Tampa, Florida and Paula as an itinerant evangelist and “Life Coach.”
For most of the 30 minutes we talked I challenged her on her theology, as revealed in her latest book “You’re All That!,” as well as her divorce. I asked her to justify statements made by members of her church that her divorce would have no impact whatsoever on its ministry. How is that possible, I asked? How is it possible that two high profile ministers could conclude that their own relationship was so damaged that divorce was the only solution, and yet believe themselves spiritually fit to continue their ministries? She had no concrete answers, and so she concluded our 30 minute conversation this way:
“And while we’re talking about painful, difficult situations, with all due respect, I understand “let’s get the elephant out of the room,” we’ve taken 30 minutes on divorce. But I don’t understand why not an interviewer or a believer as yourself has not asked me how my daughter, who has a death sentence, with third and fourth stage cancer, how she’s doing now.”
I sat stunned for a moment; stunned because I didn’t know, but more shocked that she would use a family tragedy to make me look like a terrible person simply because I challenged her theology and lifestyle.
What pray tell, does her daughter’s illness have to do with answering questions about her divorce and her humanistic theology? Is Paula White above criticism because she has a terminally ill daughter?
The larger question is: if her daughter’s illness is so serious as to warrant her not having to answer questions about her very public divorce and her very abberant theology, why is Paula White on an eight city book tour while her daughter lay dying? During our conversation she boarded a plane for Detroit for a book signing the next day.
The fact is, “her” daughter is not her daughter at all. “Her” daughter is actually her estranged husband Randy’s daughter from a previous marriage. “Her” daughter is an adult, not a child. She led me and my audience to believe that she had a young child at home dying of cancer. Paula White played the sympathy card when it became apparent she had lost the sympathy of the audience on the issues she was asked to address.
Paula White is a well managed image worth millions of dollars. Behind that image is a real person, a wounded and broken human being, who lives in fear of being exposed. Paula White revealed how broken she is when she used her dying daughter as a desperate cover to protect at all costs her well managed image. She needs our prayers as much as her daughter.

Listen to the complete interview here.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://christianitywatch.blogspot.com/2007/10/paula-whites-desperate-moment.html' title='Paula White's desperate moment!! In Acts 2:4 And they where filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In this verse we see the disciples speaking “with other tongues”, but what exactly is other tongues? To understand fully what actually happened on the day of Pentecost, we need to look at the following verses. Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

If we read on to verse11 we get more detail on the various languages spoken by the disciples. So we can conclude that on the day of Pentecost the “other tongues” which the disciples spoke was indeed other languages, spoken and understood by men.
Another very important reference to tongues is seen in 1 Corinthians 12. Paul teaches us about spiritual gifts, including the gift of speaking in diverse kinds of tongues and also the interpretation of tongues. These spiritual gifts are from the Holy Spirit and given to the body of Christ as he wills (vs 11).
The Holy Spirit is the decider of who gets what gifts and how many. Although we cannot choose which gifts we operate in, we are encouraged to desire the spiritual gifts (vs 31, chp14:1).

Do all Christians have the gift of speaking in tongues? Many Christians believe that in order to show the evidence of the Holy Spirit in a believers life, he or she must speak in tongues. Many churches will call a new believer to a pray line and begin laying hands on them and encourage them to speaking tongues by faith.

The bible is clear that we all do not have the gift of tongues. In vs 12 Paul asks the Corinthians these rhetorical questions. “Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

The conclusion therefore is that all believers do not have the gift of tongues.

There is often the question asked “Are there more then one type of tongues?” I believe there are two kinds of tongues. Lets look deeper into the scriptures on this matter.

We have already looked at the tongues spoken by the disciples on the day of Pentecost, which is clearly a tongue of men. The bible calls it “other tongues” or “other languages”.
Also 1 Corinthians 13:1 says “though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. This seems to distinguish two kinds of tongues, those which are understood by men (as in Acts 2) and those of angels (a heavenly language).

For more clarity on this, we need to look at Paul’s letter to the Corinthians on the subject of tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Paul is clearly saying that “unknown tongues” are not understood by men and that the speaker speaks mysteries in the spirit which only God understands (vs 27,28). So this must be a different kind of tongue than what was spoken o the day of Pentecost. The events that took place on the day of Pentecost was the fulfilment of a prophecy spoken by the prophet Joel, and was specific to Jewish nation.

The tongues which Paul speaks of is the gift of the spirit as spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12.

So what is the purpose of tongues today and what relevance to they have to the body of Christ? Tongues are a gift to be used in edifying the church (as all other gifts), but tongues can only edify the church when used in conjunction with the gift of interpretation of tongues (chp 12:10, 14:5-19).

The gift of tongues must be exercised in order (chp 14:33) and accordance with scripture. Paul addresses order for the use of tongues in chapter 14:27,28 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Paul explains clearly the correct use of the gift of tongues, focusing on order and the best way to benefit everyone with the gift. This is the guide to be followed by those who exercise this spiritual gift, so that all may be edified and there be no confusion in the church.

Communion

What is Communion? Should we partake in it? If so, how often should we do so?

Let look at what the word of God has to say concerning communion.

The main emphasis of communion is “fellowship”. The act associated with communion in the bible is the “breaking of bread; the body of Christ” and “drinking of wine; blood of Christ”. The bread is symbolic of the body of Christ which was given for us on the cross, the wine being symbolic of his blood which was shed for the remission of the sins of mankind, including you and I.
Luke 22:19 And he (Jesus) took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them (disciples), saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." 20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
What we can see of utmost importance from the above verse is “do this in remembrance of me.”
This is the real purpose of communion. I can see the importance of this today, since never before have I seen a lack of Christ in the church, and believers forgetting HIM and what HE did for us.
How often while listening to a sermon do you hear about the good news of Jesus Christ? You’ll most probably hear something to tickle you ears. Like something about “your destiny, dream. Purpose, blessing” etc…
Partaking of communion keeps our minds and hearts focused on Christ and his redemption and grace. This helps us remain humble and not sidetracked by every new teaching which takes our focus away from Christ.
I grew up in the Catholic Church until I received salvation through Christ and became a Christian in 1996, so I am quite familiar with communion. Often many of us like myself, see weekly partaking of communion as a religious act and not something we should bother with. This is far from the truth. Communion is not a religious ceremony, but an act of love for Christ and away of keeping him central to our lives and thoughts. We should regularly commune together as believers, not relying solely on the church to call us together on a Sunday morning. Regular fellowship should always be encouraged. Taking communion should always be encouraged on a regular basis (1 Corin 11:16). I don’t believe that we can take communion too often, as the focus should be to remember and identify with what Christ did for us on the cross.

Acts 2:45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Paul also reminds the believers in:
1 Corinthians 11: 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Lets not forget to remember the Lord and proclaim his death (salvation plan) by partaking of communion.

Sowing and reaping?

I’m pretty confident that you have at least once heard the term sowing and reaping, or "seeding" in the Christian circle. Whether it be by your Pastor in your local church, a televangelist on a Christian TV channel, or in a book by a Christian author. The term has been widely used in the body of Christ for a long time now and has even become a doctrine in some respects.
But what does the bible really have to say about sowing and reaping? Let’s have look at some scriptures on the topic.

One of the favourite scriptures concerning seedtime and harvest is Genesis 8:22 ….
Many people take this scripture and apply it to anything, but it is most commonly applied to financial sowing to ministries and “men and women of God”. But what was God referring to in vs 22. Well If we read from Chapter 6, we see God instructing Noah to build an Ark because he was about to destroy the earth by water (flood) because of the grave evil on the earth. In chapter 8 vs 21 God promises “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more everything living, as I have done.

Here we see that God had cursed the ground due to the wickedness of the people and promises never to do it again. In verse 22 he continues … “as long as the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

So was God referring to literal seeding in the earth, i.e. planting of crops or was he speaking of everything that man calls seeding i.e. sowing money into ministries expecting to get a return on our investment? I cannot conclude this to be what God meant. Can you?

2 Corinthians 9:6-But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

This is another scripture which is often used encourage giving financially to a ministry or minister. One the surface this scripture does seem to mean, that if we give small we receive small and if we give much we will receive much in return. However, If we look at the surround text we will get a better understanding of what Paul was saying to the church at Corinth. If we back up a bit further to the preceding chapter it will help us get a better understanding of the context. From the text it appears that the Corinthian church where experiencing a time of financial prosperity (cht 8 vs 14 but by equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality). What was the want of the church at Corinth and what was the want of the church at Macedonia? Paul seems to be encouraging an exchange between the churches to encourage equality. The church at Macedonia where in want financially (chp 9 vs 12) while they prospering in many other areas, eg. grace, righteousness, devotion to God.

Paul is encouraging the Corinthians to follow in the footsteps of the Macedonians and pursue righteousness. Titus had been sent to Paul by God to help and comfort him and the other apostles at a time when they where in need and cast down (chp 7 vs 5,6). Paul was desiring that Titus would also visit the Corinthian church in there now time of need. Paul boosts of the grace of God on the Macedonian church while boasting to the Macedonians of the generosity of the Corinthians and there pledge to financially assist the Macedonians. If we return to or first text in Chapter 9 vs 6, we understand that Paul in encouraging them to sow financially to the Macedonian church in need (vs 9, as it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever). Then we continue in verses 7 and 8, every man according ….

Paul puts in focus a reaping of grace, righteousness, good works and thanksgivings to God (vs 8,9,10.11,12) not a reaping of financial blessing which they already had. God in more concern about us being bountiful in righteousness, grace, etc then being bountiful in finances.

Paul reminds Timothy to teach the same to those who are rich in finances. 1 Tim 6:17-Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold of eternal life.

This is what Paul was encouraging the Corinthian church to do.
So what do we learn from this? We as Christians should support and help other Christians in need, whether they are in a third world country, your local church or you brother or sister.

Now what about you local church, pastor, etc. Should we not financially support our local church? If my Pastor is ministering fulltime how will he and his family be supported?

Firstly, if you fellowship at a local church, If you have the means it is only effecal that you support where you can to assist the church in functioning. However it must be said that this not limited to finance. Some people may not be in a position to assist financially, but may be involved in the helps ministry of the church on a voluntary basis lending a skill or gift to the body of believers.

The bible says 1Timothy 5:17-Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

So according to the scriptures elders should be looked after by the church as they do the work of God. What is important though is that they are actually labouring in the word and doctrine and not sitting at home during the week watching tv or out playing golf. This is certainly the criteria.

As much as the ox must not be muzzled, no one who remove the muzzle if the ox was eating the entire harvest. An elder should be fed but not consume the entire harvest!

Also if possible elders should continue to work where possible and it should be a last resort to receive financial support from the congregation. Today many ministers are living far beyond there necessary means, flaunting lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous, with fleets of luxury vehicles, millionaire mansions, planes, and expensive jewellery. This is not what is meant by “do not muzzle the ox”. This is fleecing the flock which God is certainly against (Ezekiel 34).

Lets look at a key scripture concerning sowing and reaping. In Matthew 6 Jesus tells us not to worry about the things of the earth like food and clothing. These are the things that the world chases after. God is our father and will provide these things if we continue to put our trust in him. Lets look at vs 26, behold the fowls of the air: for the sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

This is a valid question to be answered. Ask yourself. Am I more important to God than birds? The answer is yes you are! God is heavenly Father, so that means a lot. As we see, Jesus himself says that the birds do not sow, nor reap, yet god provides food for them. This means that God will provide food for us, if we seek first his kingdom and his righteousness (vs 33).

The problem is that many of us are pursing God out of greed and ulterior motives. Some are sowing “seeds” because we are not content with what we have already, so we are trying to use God as a high interest low risk building society.

In verse 28-30, Jesus continues with another example, this time using the lilies of the field and how God has beautifully clothed them. Again he explains that they are nothing to God compared to us his children. He ends vs 30 … shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

O ye of little faith? Jesus says they have little faith. Today may teach that sowing seed, and believing God for a harvest it great faith. This could not be more carnal and far from the truth. What you will find is that it is the rich (financially) preachers who seem to be teaching faith yet they have no understanding of what faith really is.

James 2:5-Harken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6 but ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgement seats?

The bible says that it is the poor who are rich in faith. Why? Because they have learnt how to trust God to provide for them on a daily basis (Matt 6:11-give us this day our daily bread).

Juanita begs for $200,000

This is a recent clip of Juanita Bynum begging for $200,000. The Bible compares marriage to God's love for the Church. Even if people in the Church sin against Him, He is always faithful to His unconditional love to them. It is this love, God's love for the Church that is represented by the spouses vow to love each other until death do them part, for better or for worse.

NOTE: Since this video I have been directed to more information on this topic by independentonservative. I am studying into this further and will update my final conclusions on the matter. The marital unfaithful Christ speaks of in Mat 19:9 may not be an excuse to divorce at all, if the greek word used (Porniea) means what some imply. It is said that this word has more to do with "unlawful" marriage. Example, being decieved into marriage (it was a custom that a virgin signed a certificate to validate there virginity.

If it was found by her husband on her wedding night that she lied this would constitute a breach of contract, with effect allowing the husband to nullify the marriage)Or as Paul said in 1 Cor 5:1-5, a man with his fathers wife, of an incestious marriage. This marriage would not be recognised by God.If this is the case and if this is the intended meaning of "unfaithfulness" in this verse, then the excuse of adultery is also invalid as an excuse to divorce and remarry. Bearing in mind that Christ said, to look at a women to lust after her is commiting adultery in your heart. This is surely not grounds to divorce.

I would advise a study on the greek work 'Porniea'. What God has joined together, let NO man seperate. God bless you and TRUST in the Lord our God. HE is ABLE.

Tonex - This is just the beginning. It has become all about money and business. By Dazzarai

Firstly, let us define the term “doctrine”. It is derived from the Greek word didache (Strong’s G1322)

It can be defined as the following: teaching, that which is taught, the act of teaching, instruction. In religious assemblies of the Christians, to speak in the way of teaching. In distinction from other modes of speaking in public.

Now you have an understanding of the meaning of ‘doctrine’, let us explore what the Word of God says concerning this, and how important it is for Christians and our walk with Christ.

I have noticed while conversing with many Christians that there seems to be confusion to “where” doctrine comes from. The bible speaks of ‘doctrines of God’, ‘doctrines of men’ and even ‘doctrines of devils’.

How can we know whose doctrines we are following?

Jesus said in John 7:16 - "Jesus answered them, and said, my doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me".
If we remember that doctrine means “teaching and instruction”, we understand that Christ is saying that what He teaches is from God. They are the doctrines of God and not man, as other men were teaching at the time.

Some people believe that the teachings of Christ over rule the teachings of the apostles, i.e. Peter and Paul.

This ideology could not be more wrong. The apostles taught the doctrines that Christ taught them and passed them down to the believers.

Paul says in Galatians 1:11
‘I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.’

Also the bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16 ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for DOCTRINE, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (Emphasis added.)

Firstly we see that ALL scripture (not just the words of Christ in red) is given by inspiration of God. God has used man to write His word. Secondly scripture is profitable to us, firstly for DOCTRINE or as we said before, teaching and instructing in the things of God. Everything we need to walk and be perfected as Christians is in the scriptures. God no longer needs to give individual revelations to us; he has given his guidance in his Word. The problem is we are just too lazy at times to STUDY the word for ourselves.

IS YOUR DOCTRINE SOUND?

The bible says in 1 Timothy 1:9-11

‘9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.’ (Emphasis added)

‘Sound’ is the key here. Is your doctrine sound? Does it line up with the teachings of Christ and the apostles? Or do you choose which parts of God’s doctrine you practise?

The bible also says in 2 Timothy 4:3
‘For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.’ (Emphasis added)

I’m sure most Christians today will agree that we are in the season of the last days, yet most will deny that there are false teachers about. I find this very disturbing to say the least.
Never before have there been so many teachers and so little gospel. People are heaping to THEMSELVES teachers (a great number) teaching a gospel that is not a gospel at all. Some rarely mention Jesus except when trying to Jes-ify there worldly teachings. You cannot take the things of this world, add Jesus to it and call it the teachings of Christ. This is a grave deception. Hence, we are to “STUDY to show ourselves approved, also RIGHTLY divide the word of truth.

It is funny how Christian’s, even leaders today will tell you “let God deal with people if they are teaching doctrines that are false”. Here’s what the word of God says:

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

1 Timothy 1:3
I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer.

Titus 1:9
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
(Emphasis added)

Refute those who oppose it? So we should not just sit back and let God deal with it. You know why God won’t do anything about it? Because we are charged to deal with it, it’s that simple. Unfortunately, most Christians today have been sold a lie, that Christianity promises a great life on this earth. So because we don’t want any persecution we would rather allow doctrines of devils to plague the body of Christ. Is that not wicked?

DOCTRINES OF MEN & DEVILS

This is what Christ said concerning those who teach the commandments of men:

Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Hebrew 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
(Emphasis added)

The teaching of the tithe is a great example of this scripture. Men have turned the grace of God (Gods’ determining of whether we have health, finances, etc) and turned it into meats (If you do, God will do, when the praises go up, the blessings come down, i.e. works), yet it has not profited them that practise these things.

For example, the next time you meet someone who says tithing WORKS (and that’s exactly what it is WORKS,) ask them when last they had so much blessing that they had no room to receive it. Or do they have any bill that they struggle with while a tither?

It amazes me how so many tithers are broke yet believe in the tithe as the means for God to bless them, according to Malachi 3. Someone has to be a liar and it certainly is NOT God. I guess that leaves the teacher then, or a lack of understanding of scripture…

Ephesians 4:14
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.
(Emphasis added)

So many people today are being tossed to and fro, believing and being deceived by whatever they hear their “favourite” preachers say and teach. I’ve heard preachers say that people must have blind faith about the things they are taught; to just believe them. Or you are poor because you are slow to believe. What happened to the Bereans in Acts 17?

Acts 17:10
As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.

This is a prime example of how we as Christians are to receive the Word of God. And as teachers if what you teach are the doctrines of Christ, then you need not be afraid to have your teachings examined. It’s very simple, don’t you think?

THE DOCTRINES OF GOD.

We have gathered that the doctrines of God are profitable for us, but what are the doctrines of God. The doctrines of God are what we are taught by Christ and by the apostles in the Word. It is very simple: follow what Christ AND the apostles taught.

The bible is filled with doctrines of Christ including but not limited to: his birth by a virgin, his miracles, his death, burial, resurrection, and ascension to the right hand of God. However, there are many other important doctrines of Christ. These include His church, worship, repentance, baptism, the Holy Spirit, the Lord's Supper, order of ordination of ministers, correct applications of the gifts of the Spirit, right living, and His Second Coming as well as others. There is a tendency to emphasise Christian living and neglect Christian doctrine. They go hand in hand: one cannot go without the other.

Basically, when you read the Word of God, obey it and you will find favour with God.

SO IS DOCTRINE IMPORTANT?

1 Timothy 4:16
Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

We will be saved if we hold on to the teachings of Christ and the apostles. One of the dangers of losing our salvation is being deceived away from the doctrines of Christ. So the answer is YES, doctrine is very important to the believers. Especially if you are a teacher, since you will be held accountable for those you lead away from Christ by the doctrine you teach, if it is not of Christ.

"By laying these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Jesus Christ, being fed with the words of the faith and of the good teaching which you have followed (1 Tim. 4:6),

Verse 13: "Until I come, pay attention to reading, to comforting and to teaching (doctrine).

I hope you will continue (or begin) to pay more attention to the doctrines of Christ as you continue to grow as a Christian, following in the noble footsteps of the Bereans in Acts 17, rightly dividing the word of truth, so that no man will deceive you.

May God bless you and keep you,

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://christianitywatch.blogspot.com/2007/06/how-important-is-doctrine-by-dazzarai.html' title='HOW IMPORTANT IS DOCTRINE? My last one was ********. About a month or two ago, we were arguing on a video by Bonasse, and I remember saying some pretty stupid and possibly hurtful things. I'm sorry about that. Just within the past few days I had an epiphany that resulted in me realizing that my pursuit of logic and reason under atheist beliefs were worthless. I returned to God in my mind and saw that Christ was the way for me. Anyway I just wanted to apologize.

Praise God! Be encourage! As usual Christians are being duped into buying these secular albums, because of the presence of a so called "gospel artist".

Here is the track on youtube:

Are these guys truly converted? Some friends and I have begun a three day fast (tuesdays - thursdays, between 9am and 5pm) for the next two months, ending on the last thursday in July.

We are praying concerning the body of Christ, for the blinders to be removed over the eyes of the blind, for God to remove any hierlins and be their good shepherd (Ezekiel 34) and for restoration and healing to the broken hearted (especially those who have been spiritually, emotionally, even physically abused by any church/organisation).

Lastly, for a guy called Ringo, many of you might already know something about him. He really does need our prayer, as I am convinced there is something wrong with him. I cannot decern exactly what it is, but he is being driven by something which is not of God. Please pray for his salvation and his mind. And against any attack of satan against him.

Thank you brothers and sisters for your diligence in this matter.

God bless you

Your brother in Christ, Dazzarai

Benny Hinn the False Prophet

Benny Hinn says Jesus is going to appear PHYSICALLY on the platform in one of his crusades. If it feels good or right, it “bears witness." Another way is by just accepting it by faith, since whatever is happening is inside the church, and therefore must be from God. NONE of these are a biblical measure for Truth and has more in common with the way the world operates, than the Church.
John the Apostle writes in 1 John 4:1-3: "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world."
1 John 4:1 tells us to try or "test the spirits." Why? Because there are false prophecies given by false spirits not only outside the Church but inside. This mandate is for our protection. The way to test a false prophet was by doctrine, not by what they would actually say, because in Deut. 13 God says it can actually come to pass, but that he is testing you whether you love the Lord.
Jesus said, "If you love me you'll continue in my word."
In Ezekiel there is an interesting Scripture Ezek. 13:2-3: "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, 'Hear the word of the LORD!'" Thus says the Lord GOD: "Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!" God says one can actually say they are hearing from the Lord, but it really is their own spirit.
False prophets speak under a different spirit, to test them is for our own protection.
Mt.7:16-17: "You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so, every good tree brings forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree brings forth bad fruit... "therefore by their fruits you shall know them." So he is actually saying by the way someone lives, acts and says things, you can know him or her. What someone believes will be shown on the outside, we cannot judge the persons heart, but we can determine their teachings and practices.
We are to judge and distinguish between good and bad fruit from a tree. The fruit speaks of the outward display of what kind of life is inside. The tree would be the doctrine of what one believes that will produce either good or bad fruit. If there doctrine is false it will show in what they teach.
Remember Jesus is explaining how to determine a false prophet. He then goes into a description of what they do and say to validate themselves. Power is exhibited in miracles and exorcism's, signs and wonders. Yet Jesus said he never knew them, he had no relationship, with them. It was one-sided because they were lawless; they didn't submit to the head of the body, Christ.
Fruit is described in Gal. 5:22: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." James says: 3:17 "But this wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits. without partiality and without hypocrisy."
Mt. 12:33: "a tree is known by its fruit." The fruit of the Spirit shows the life of Christ. Fruit is not how big ones ministry is or even how effective it is. All this can be misleading. If that's all it meant than whoever has the biggest church or denomination would be the most fruitful- even those who teach things contrary to the Bible.
To be filled with the Spirit means that someone will act spiritual- that they are under the control of the Spirit and the fruit of his presence will show.
They will go to God's word for guidance and understanding for matters in their lives, not to an a so-called anointed teacher for the last say.
1 Cor. 14:29 says that a prophecy is to be judged by others who prophesy. The Greek word for “judge” is “diachronic” and means “to doubt, discriminate, or separate thoroughly.” This guideline stresses the importance of truth accepted and error rejected. It also stresses accountability, for what one says is to be judged, which reduces the margin for error.
Acts 17:11 tells us that when Paul came to the Berean's, they reacted to his teachings by searching the Word of God to see if Paul was preaching the truth. Paul called them more noble than the Thessalonians because they were concerned with discerning Truth, using Scripture as the standard. Paul did not discourage them from questioning his teaching even though he was an apostle. He approved of it.
If those who are teaching would preach the Word in purity, they would not have to be concerned or afraid of their listeners or others checking their teachings with the Word of God, because they would be on target and accurately conveying the Truth of the Bible. Only those who know they are off-course will cry, “Don't discern or judge!”
A full examination of what is being said is the safest course for every believer in Christ. All supernatural events must be tested before they can be embraced as truth. Don't be intimidated by big names saying not too. It's your spiritual right, even your obligation, for your own protection.
To sum it all up...The spiritual man can discern all things. This shows maturity as Heb.5:13-14 says. 2 John 9 speaks to us about deceivers and tells us the only way to know is by doctrine: “Whoever transgresses (goes beyond the boundaries set forth and already established) and does not abide (live in, trust, stay in remain in) the doctrine of Christ does not have God.”
Heb. 5:11-14 says that we are to discern the good from the evil in a person's life and behavior. This applies to teachings inside the body of Christ and outside.
1 Cor. 2:15 says: “But he that is spiritual (or a spiritual man) judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no man.” Why does the spiritual man discern or judge all things? Verse 16 says because he has “the mind of Christ.”
The word “judge” used in 1 Cor. 2:14-15 means that one is to use discernment to see a thing's true value or to examine something (Gr. Anakrino). In Mt. 7:1, the word “judge” means to determine or call into question (Greek Krino).
Training ourselves to hear the Shepherds voice, his word keeps us from harm. When the Bereans heard what seemed like new truth from Paul, they went directly to the word.
God wants to protect his people. There is even a supernatural gift of testing the Spirits that goes beyond the normal way of discerning by the word. This is one gift that is not being sought after in the Church. In 1 Cor. 12:10, there is mentioned the gift of discerning spirits. One is to distinguish, judge, or discriminate whether a spirit is from God or some other source--possibly evil (Gr. Diakrisis).
Most importantly, the Word of God is available to everyone, and, “ is quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Heb. 4:12). So we are to use it for ourselves and others to discriminate concerning a teaching or what exactly is transpiring in a supernatural service.
The Word must have its correct interpretation or one finds himself wandering from the original intent of the author which would put them outside the truthfulness of the Scriptures. They would then be believing in a false concept of the Word which God never intended. This is something the Holy Spirit cannot honor, validate, or communicate. God does still speak today, but it certainly is not new doctrine.
If you had a child who came home from school and said he was taught 2+2 = 5 would you correct him? Would you go to his teacher to find out why he is being taught this? Would you being doing this because you are judgmental or out of love? If you didn't do any of this could you say you are a good parent! If we judge things which are non spiritual, how much more important are the things pertaining to eternal verities.
Rom.16:17-18: “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.”
These men have a appetite and we need to not be naive'. We identify these people for the brethren’s own safety, we are to identify false teachers for the purpose of protecting the sheep in Christ's Church, and we certainly don’t need to apologize for it.

The Gospel of Money

The gospel of money

There are many gospel being preached throughout the body of Christ today. There should only be one Gospel and that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ; The power of God unto salvation. However, you will be hard pressed to hear the real Gospel preached in the world today. I would go as far as saying that if you want to hear the Gospel you'd be more likely to hear it from the guy or old lady preaching on the street corner with their megaphone in one hand and bible in the other.

So what has happened to the Gospel message. Most preachers are so concerned about numbers in there church that they will preach anything to get people through their doors.

2 Timothy 4: 3-43
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

1 Tim 6: 3-10
3If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Flee from this kind of teaching which is plaging the body of Christ.

Amos 8:11
"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.

We must content for the Gospel which was passed to us by the Apostles, as you can see Paul admonishing this to Timothy since een in his time other gospels where being preached.

Remember it is only the true Gospel of Jesus Christ that can save you and others.

Yours in Christ,

Dazzarai

Creflo Dollar denies the divinity of Christ

Beware of False Prophets

The divinity of Christ seems to be under a blatant attack by many preachers/teachers at the moment. The information will be provide in order for you to make up your mind and decisions based on the evidence provided.

I would imagine that the majority of Christians would be familiar with the scripture:

John 1
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2The same was in the beginning with God.
3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

It is not difficult to understand this verse; that Christ was God, Is God and Will forever be God.

If we understand that God was (as he states many times in scripture, unlike some preachers falsely teach that God is not a God of the was) then we know that Jesus was God even when he was laying in the manger and not when he was baptised by John the baptist.

I believe that most christians do not really understand the detriment of what Creflo is preaching here. Coming directly against the divinity of Christ, has a knock on effect concerning every christians salvation. If Jesus BECAME God then we are all doomed to eternal damnation since any man could of done what Jesus did (like many of Creflos associates preach) therefore, indicating that Christ came all the way down to earth in vain.

Due to the amount of heretical and false teachings coming from Creflo dollar I would strongly suggest that (if you do) you stop listening to his teachings and they are seriously detrimental to your christian health.

Yours in Christ,

Dazzarai

Welcome to my blog

Hi, and welcome to my first ever blog.

The purpose of this blog is to be an informative and helpful tool for the development and growth of fellow christian brothers and sisters in the Lord and to expose false teachers, false prophets and false doctrines plaging the body of Christ.

Please be aware that you may find information share here difficult to digest and at the most offensive if you are still young in the Lord or not matured in the word and still growing on the milk of the word.
